Catherine + Andy ● Battery Park NYC Wedding Photos
Gather ’round, folks, and let me tell you a tale. A tale of a couple who wanted nothing more than to be married – and overcame every obstacle to make it so.
When Catherine emailed me about shooting her City Hall wedding, something triggered my memory – I recognized her name but I couldn’t quite place why. We quickly figured it out…we both worked at the same student job while at NYU together (around 2004-2005ish). Catherine had found my site via a Google search for wedding photographers for City Hall weddings and that’s how we reconnected. Crazy!!
At any rate, she had set her wedding day as Friday, November 2nd. Catherine and Andy’s families from upstate were all set to come down to the city.
And then, of course, Hurricane Sandy hit. Among many other issues, power was out for most of Lower Manhattan. Without being able to get in touch with the Clerk’s Office to see if City Hall was open for marriages, Catherine and Andy had to make a game time decision.
So, with 24 hours’ notice, and with rapidly changing plans, Catherine and Andy (and their families, who made the seven hour drive down to the city) decided to marry in Battery Park. Hair, makeup, and floral vendors cancelled on them. Catherine found a hair stylist in the hotel they were staying at (the Conrad Hotel) who, despite never having done women’s hair, did a fantastic job. She found a (very) local florist who whipped up a bouquet. And, less than a day before the wedding, secured Judie Guild as an officiant.
And so, we have this. Their perfectly perfect Battery Park wedding, surrounded by their closest family (and a fly-by by a Coast Guard helicopter). Wonderfully, Bridal Guide Magazine did a feature on the wedding soon after.
It was a wedding I’ll never forget!!
