Apparently, based on a quick (read: one minute) glance at Google, wedding cake traditions have been around in some form or another since the Roman Empire. Any excuse for it, right? A lot of times the top layer would be a type of fruit cake, which could be preserved for a long period of time. At some point (details are hazy, the Google search was perhaps too quick…) the cake was thrown at the bride.
No brides were harmed in the photographing of these cakes.
