Brenna + Jon ● Catskills Wedding Photos at Hera’s Farm
Oh man. There is so much I can say about how amazing this rustic wedding was. Brenna found me through A Practical Wedding at the beginning of this year. She and Jon live upstate in Kingston, NY. Up until this year I had never been too far upstate. And, um, it’s all gorgeous. Seriously. Driving up there was treacherous simply because I kept looking at all the scenery way more than the road (note: nobody was harmed in the making of this wedding).
My GPS directed me when to get off the highway, and I noticed the roads I was turning down were becoming narrower and narrower, and where I was going was more and more remote. Finally, my GPS told me to start navigating “off road” to get to the venue. Thankfully Brenna and Jon had put out some signs along the road to direct guests (and their photographer whose GPS just couldn’t handle it!). Driving up a dirt driveway, past an old house and into a field, I parked the car and looked around. This place was STUNNING.
The venue is known as “Hera’s Farm.” It’s a large parcel of land in Bearsville, NY. It consists of fields, a pond, a few smaller buildings, the barn – where the reception was – and Hera’s farmhouse. Built in 1830, the house has many original details, including old clawfoot tubs. Hera herself lives in the house, and it’s where the wedding party kept their stuff and got ready. This venue is so unique, there’s literally no official website to link to, and in fact it’s only available for a small handful of weddings every year. If you are interested in booking your wedding here, you can reach out to Hera directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. (PS her business card has Wonder Woman on it, therefore Hera = my hero).
A lot of the wedding was DIY. The tins used for the centerpieces were Brenna’s own. One of Brenna’s bridesmaids did her hair and makeup. Jon’s boss was the officiant. Jon’s aunt made the cake. It was a real “coming together” celebration of two people and their friends and family. I love these types of weddings especially. There’s a real communal feeling with everyone, because so many people pitched in to set up and make it perfect.
It was indeed a perfect day! Congratulations to Brenna and Jon!
